Rev. Jonas Hayes served as a chaplain resident with the New Orleans Police Department in 2002. In this role – he counseled police officers and victims of crime. He also served as a chaplain resident for California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco from 2003 - 2004 – working with medical staff, patients and their families.
Rev. Hayes believes that pastoral care is the heart of a church’s ministry.
The Book of Isaiah reminds us of how we are called to be present with people, saying:
" I have set you among my people to bind them to me,
and provided you as a lighthouse to the nations,
To make a start at bringing people into the open, into light: opening blind eyes,
releasing prisoners from dungeons,
emptying the dark prisons."
- Isaiah 42:6-7, The Message |
